At HDS Greentech, sustainability isn’t simply something we advise our clients about – it matters to us personally too.
We’re a small team with a shared commitment to the environment and the world around us. From conservation work and a love of wildlife to helping design teams create buildings that use less energy and perform better, that commitment influences the way we approach our work.
We combine that personal responsibility with extensive building physics expertise and state-of-the-art modelling technology. It means we care about getting the detail right – not simply to achieve compliance, but to help create better-performing buildings with a more considered impact on the environment.
Damian Markham-Smith
Founder & Director
With more than 20 years’ experience in building physics and sustainability, Damian combines a deep understanding of computational modelling with a practical and inquisitive approach to building design.
- PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics
- Formerly led building computational modelling and sustainability for Gifford/Ramboll in Southampton
- Experience across education, healthcare, commercial, residential, museums, heritage, industrial and specialist buildings
- One of the first CIBSE-accredited L2A Assessors
- Level 5 Low Carbon Energy Assessor
- Worked on award-winning projects including the Mary Rose Museum, The Novium and RHS Harlow Carr
- University lecturer and experienced industry speaker
Damian loves a project that presents an unusual problem and gives him something new to investigate. Outside work, he’s a keen theatre-goer and animal lover, and regularly seeks out opportunities to see wildlife – sometimes getting rather closer than most of us would, including recently swimming with a crocodile!
That genuine interest in the world around him complements his approach at HDS: understand the problem properly, question the obvious solution and find the best way forward.
